Return to the Magpie Cafe, Whitby, Yorkshire

There are so many good chip shops in Whitby. We’ve enjoyed fayre from

Royal Fisheries

Fish Box

Robertsons Chips Away

Trenchers

Fisherman’s Wife

The Middle Chippy

The Middle Chippy has long since gone and Robertson's is now a Trencher's takeaway.

We last visited Magpie in 2015, so as one of us was back at the Yorkshire resort I thought I must be allowed to go again after 9 years!

I queued but not for long and was soon being tended to by a friendly and helpful waitress. I’d had mushy peas with the haddock last time so had curry sauce for variation.

All the food was delicious.

Crisp, tasty batter encasing fresh flakes of haddock. Delicately crispy chips with fluffy insides. Sweet and spicy curry sauce and plenty of it - served in a gravy boat.

As a bonus I had some juicy gherkins and helped myself to some tartare sauce from the generous squeezy bottle.

Signature Magpie Cafe mints finished the meal off.
