November - December 2025 Round-Up

Here is our final round-up of the year. As 2025 dipped into Winter we published some recent chip shop visits on YouTube, but also a few videos from earlier in the year when it was a tad warmer.

The last time we blogged Steve's at Tamworth, Warwickshire, there was a cafe on the premises. The shop is now takeaway only. The food was still very good and we were able to relax afterwards in the Kings Ditch Micropub nearby.

Worksop was a new venture for us. We went there in November to eat at King Fish. The food was excellent, you'll be pleased to know. It wasn't far from the railway station, which made it handy to reach.

Over in Worcester we visited Mother Hubbard's. We have been to a few of the shops in this franchise now, and so far the food has been consistently good. They are also handy if you want a cafe meal to escape the cold weather.

Margaret's Chippy at Whittington Moor, Chesterfield is a very unpretentious, classic chip shop. Locals queue outside the door and if you're not from the area this is the only way to identify the shop because it has no signage outside! (We reviewed this chip shop in 2023).

One of the Chip Fiends wanted to try a Yorkshire Fishcake. The only fishcake in the hot box was unfortunately nabbed by another customer before it was our turn to be served. Looks like we will have to go again!

Manifold Fish and Chips in Longnor, near Buxton has been on our 'wants' list for a few years. One of us had the opportunity to visit a couple of months ago. The shop didn't disappoint. Fish is fried to order. The shop has a cafe but the Chip Fiend decided to eat semi-al fresco in a bus shelter so the meal could be filmed undisturbed. The haddock was simply delicious, falling apart in pure white, moist flakes. The chips and mushy peas were great too.

In utter contrast to this. We tried a Harry Ramsden-branded ready meal of fish and chips to try at home. An interesting experiment but not something to repeat. We found the fish to be rather dry.

Back to a proper chippy!.. The Wallace Fish Bar in Coventry didn't disappoint!

Who remembers those days when there were lots of dinky fish and chip shops to be found in most towns and villages? Rob's Plaice in Bingley, Yorkshire made us feel very nostalgic. The meal was served with a generous helping of batter scraps too. Lovely.

Over in England's smallest county we returned to the Silver Fish Bar in Uppingham, Rutland. We reviewed this chip shop way back in 2014.

Another return was made recently to a chip shop one of us had eaten at before. This was Ripley's in Ripley, Derbyshire. No wedge of lemon this time, but the meal was excellent. Fresh, chunky chips, pure white haddock, and delicious mushy peas. The town was looking pretty with its Christmas lights up despite the rain.

Our third YouTube video of Bury St Edmunds also featured on the channel in December. Bury's Fish and Chips was a chippy one of us had a takeaway from a few years ago. It had quite a big cafe back in 2019. However, the premises (like Steve's at Tamworth) has shrunk, but there are a couple of tables in front of the counter. One of the Chip Fiends enjoyed some haddock, chips and curry sauce here.

Back to one of our favourite cities for fish and chips, we enjoyed lunch at Riverside Fish Bar in Sheffield.

Another lunchtime snack was enjoyed in Stapleford, Nottingham. These were bought at Andy's.

And finally, how about an extended version of our bike ride to Binley Mega Chippy? Especially for Christmas we published a Redux edit of this Warwickshire chip shop.

That's all for 2025. Please do have a look at our YouTube channel if you haven't already. The channel is a visual diary of our travels around the UK - visits to chip shops and a bit of sightseeing. No selfies, no voice overs and no reviews! And we always reply to our comments.

Best wishes from the Chip Fiends :)
