Ye Olde Tutbury Fryer, Tutbury, Staffordshire

The Chip Fiends found themselves in Tutbury, Staffordshire. According to history, Tutbury’s fasting woman, Ann Moore, claimed to have eaten nothing between 1807 to 1813, but we weren’t going to wait six minutes yet alone six years without fish and chips!

Ye Olde Tutbury Fryer was our lunchtime venue. The weather was a bit drizzly so we sat in a bus shelter and ate our generous portions of haddock, chips, curry sauce and mushy peas.

The batter was crisp, the fish was nice and flakey, the curry sauce was bog standard and the mushy peas were excellent: very tasty and with good, firm, pearly peas in their sauce.

If you want your peas or curry potted rather than over the chips it will cost an extra 80p. Haddock is the standard fish here. If you want cod, you will need to ask for it upon arrival.
