Billy’s All Day Diner, Northampton

I was in Northampton on a Sunday afternoon. Where to eat? I wasn’t going to pay over the odds for frozen rubbish knocked up in a pub kitchen and described as “home cooked”.

A glance at google maps showed that that Billy’s All Day Diner would be open. Would they be serving fish and chips on a Sunday? I would go and find out.

This diner is at the end of a street we visited a few years ago to go to two other chip shops. It seems they like their fish and chips in this part of Northampton.

They were indeed serving fish and chips and cooking to order. I ordered a pot of tea and some mushy peas too and the lot came to about £12.00.

After a few minutes the food arrived with some complimentary sachets of tartare sauce. This looked like some of the best fish and chips I’ve ever had. The chips were pale gold with sharp edges and the batter crisp and light.

The whole lot was demolished with a satisfying burp!
