Market Square Fish Bar, Bicester, Oxfordshire

Two of the Chip Fiends had lunch at Market Square Fish Bar. It was a damp, drizzly day so we were glad to sit inside. The layout of the fish bar with its cafe tables reminded one of us of the Golden Fish Bar in Norwich.

We ordered fish, chips and curry sauce to share. The meal was served on a plate with metal cutlery and the curry in a separate pot.

The chips were a tempting dark golden colour, almost matching the batter, and  had a good, fresh potato taste. The fish was a generous ‘small’ size. A decent filet for us to share. It had moist, dainty flakes.

The curry sauce was unusual. It was a very pale colour and looked more like mushroom soup. There was a hint of curry flavour and presumably it was homemade. It made a nice dip for the chips though.

As we ate, the owner chatted pleasantly with local customers. It’s handy that this shop is open all afternoon when similar establishments are closed.Ratings out of 5:Fish: 3Chips: 4Curry sauce: 2Shop / service: 4Over all: 4
