Allestree Fish Bar, Derby

The Chip Fiends have visited quite a few chippies in and around Derby. It was high time to catch the Allestree bus and make our way into the suburbs to find this estate chip shop.

Service was quick because the fish was out of the hotbox. I paid £8.10 for my special of small haddock, chips and sauce, then sat in a bus shelter to eat out of reach of the downpour.

My sauce of choice was Irish curry. This really helped to lift an otherwise average meal.

The chips were hand cut and although they looked tempting they’d started to go chewy like the batter on the fish.

It wasn’t a busy lunchtime (I was the only customer in sight) so it may be worth waiting to fry when someone turns up so everything is fresh.
