Yorkies Pop Up Chip Shop, Whitwick, Leicestershire

Over the years we’ve been lucky enough to find a couple of really good chip vans offering tip top grub. To this list we can add the Pop Up Chip Shop. The success of businesses like this is due mainly to hard graft … and knowing how to serve good quality food. Frying in small batches and keeping a steady flow of fresh food to serve up is the key. This is precisely what Yorkies Pop Up does.

This van visits pub car parks as far afield as Shardlow and Heanor in Derbyshire, Granby in the Vale of Belvoir, and Whitwick in Leicestershire. We visited a couple of times at the latter venue. Between us we sampled cod, chips, mushy peas and curry sauce.

All the food was super tasty and dished up in a sensible portion size which created no waste. The cod was a thickish fillet encased in a crisp, knobbly batter. The chips came chunky in a hand cut, homemade look.

The sauces were superb. The mushy peas amongst the best we’ve had. A good, runny sauce containing peas that held their shape. The curry sauce tasted like our favourite ‘Irish’ variety. Tangy with a hot sweetness.

The business has amusing and inviting branding on Instagram and Facebook, and staff wear flat caps when serving. A nice touch. Food is fried in beef dripping. Visit their websiteRatings out of 5:Cod: 5Chips: 5Mushy peas: 5Curry sauce: 5Shop / service: 5Over all: 5
