The Fryery, Whaley Bridge, High Peak, Derbyshire

One of us was on a day trip to Whaley Bridge. There’s a couple of highly recommended chip shops in this town.

I peaked through the door of The Fryery before opening hours and was sold by the sign that said all fish was cooked to order. I returned later when the chippy was open and ordered cod, chips and mushy peas.

The meal was soon ready and a handy bench under the front window was the ideal spot to eat.I was pleased by the homemade mushy peas. Pale and tasty.

The chips (made from new potatoes) were a tad chewy and the cod a little bit firm for my liking. Nevertheless it was a pleasant meal.

A new member of staff was being trained and was instructed to put salt and vinegar on the chips before the peas. Well done. A final sprinkle over the fish would’ve been a good idea too.Ratings out of 5:
