The Golden Fish Bar, Norwich

The Golden Fish Bar is just off the A147 (Queens Road) as you walk approx 16 minutes from Norwich city centre and approach Lakenham.

The great thing about this chippy is that it has a few tables for indoor eating. It was very handy on this evening because it was raining lightly outside. Just enough to dampen the chips!

Being as the shop had only just opened I asked for one of the fishes in the hotbox along with chips and curry sauce to eat in.The chips were scooped into a tray, topped with fish, and then I was invited to add my own salt and vinegar. The curry was served up in a separate pot. My meal cost £6.50.

The fish had a nice, knobbly, crisp batter. The fish inside was tender, delicate and tasty. The chips were chunky. I really enjoyed dunking them in the thick curry which was spicy but left a sweet taste on the lips.

As I sat eating, several locals came in to buy food. The shopkeepers greeted them by name and asked after their families. How delightful. One customer ordered six chip butties and two pots of curry sauce. What a feast! The Golden Fish Bar serves cod in two sizes, plaice, rock, haddock, roe and scampi.Ratings out of 5:Fish: 3Chips: 3Curry sauce: 3Shop / service: 4Over all: 3
