Monty’s, Leek, Staffordshire

Handily situated in the market place at Leek is Monty’s. On the Friday evening that I visited the shop was doing a roaring trade for pre-orders. There were several staff behind the counter. One person was on a production line wrapping food into parcels and placing them in the hot box ready for collection.

I was welcomed in by someone best described as a host, who took walk-in orders and payments in the cafe area in front of the counter.

After a few minutes my meal of small fish and chips was ready. I walked over to the market cross to eat.

The batter on the fish was quite soft, being damp and floury on the inside.

The chips didn’t have much flavour. In fact the whole caboodle was quite bland.

A pity, as the customer service was delightful.
