Watergate Fish Bar, Leicester

The weeds sticking out the front of the shop didn’t look good. It gave off vibes of “can’t be bothered”. If the outside of the shop was slovenly what would the food and service be like?

I stepped in and placed my order. It was a Friday teatime. There was a mini fish in the hot box. I was in and out the shop in a minute. Nixon wasn’t there, I checked.

Alas that famous Leicestershire spongy batter wrapped the fish, a decent piece of haddock. They were frying new potatoes which were delicious but that’s all I can write home about today, I’m afraid.
