Matlock Green Fish Bar is situated at the far end of Hall Leys Park, away from the main shopping area of Matlock. This makes it a useful place to grab lunch if you are at the end of the park where the boating lake is.
One of us visited for a lunch of small haddock, chips, and curry sauce one Saturday. Service was quick and polite. After paying by card I sat in the park for a picnic. A good amount of salt and vinegar had been sprinkled on the food for me!
There were some fish already in the hot box when I visited the shop. However, they couldn’t have been standing long because the one I ate was still fresh tasting. It had also retained a crisp, light batter. Very good.
The piping hot chips were medium cut and had a fresh potato flavour.
The curry sauce was the sweet style. It did a good job of coating the meal and mixed nicely with the vinegar, but wasn’t very strong on flavour. Nevertheless this was a satisfying lunch and a highly recommended chippy.
