Wellington's Chip Shop and Cafe, Cromford, Derbyshire

The Chip Fiends have been to Cromford before and had a takeaway from Robinson’s Fish and Chips. More recently one of us returned to the Derbyshire village to try out another chippy there: Wellington's. It was a Saturday lunchtime and the shop opened at 12.30pm on the dot. I ordered fish, chips and peas, paid contactless and waited a few minutes outside where my takeaway was soon brought to me with a smile. It was boxed and wrapped in an insulated brown paper bag with plastic fork inside.

I walked up a narrow lane to find some seats across the road from Scarthin Books.

What a delight when I unwrapped and opened my parcel. The food looked a pretty picture... and it tasted good too!

The batter was very airy and crisp on top. The cod inside fell apart in big juicy flakes. Moist and delicious.

The chips were cut long and of medium thickness. They had a nice homemade / hand cut look to them and were very tasty.

The mushy peas were excellent. They tasted creamy. The sauce was nice and runny with some soft pearls inside.

If you’ve read our previous blog about eating fish and chips in Cromford you’ll know that we made a friend there. Well lo and behold who should appear again on this occasion but the same friendly chap... His verdict on Wellington’s was 5 star...
