Chaddesden Fish Bar, Derby

This area on the outskirts of Derby is home to several chip shops. It is also on the i4 Chippy Route that the Chip Fiends tried a few years back.

Chaddesden Fish Bar is one of those chip shops that caters for all tastes. It serves Southern Fried Chicken, kebabs, and burgers, as well as fish and chips. Whether you think that is a good thing or not - you decide.

The fish they serve includes cod, haddock, roe, scampi and fish fingers. There are different set meals which helps you to know the price before ordering. Mini fish and chips is £3.80. Add a sauce and it is £4.50. I went for mini fish, chips and curry.

The shop was accepting cash so I got rid of some shrapnel that I had had for ages.

When I was served I took a seat across the road and tucked in.

The mini fish had been standing, but wasn't too bad. There were nice delicate flakes of skinless fish but two thirds of the batter was sludgy.

sludgy batter - no thanks!

The chips were nice, fresh and quite chunky. They were hot and had a good flavour of fresh potato. The curry sauce was the standard chip shop type, but mixed thickly which was good.
