Anstey Chippy, Anstey, Leicestershire

It’s been a while since we were last in Anstey. That was to visit the rather quirky and retro chippy William Walton. This chippy is your standard no frills affair.

Social distancing rules applied on this visit, with only two customers allowed in the shop at a time. It wasn’t particularly busy, so complying with the rules was easy. It seemed odd that they were cash only, when most other shops are encouraging contactless payments.

They were frying fish and putting them in the heated cabinet so I ordered mini fish and chips for £4.70.

The chips were very good; medium thin cut, crisp outside and fluffy inside.
They tasted nice too.
The batter on the fish was quite thick and tasted of grease. The fish inside was decent enough but it could have been improved with a squeeze of lemon to get rid of that greasy flavour.
