Cod Fish and Chips, Nottingham

There was a chip shop down St James's Street in Nottingham for many years. Over time it became very grubby-looking and not a place that would exactly entice you in. Now Nottingham has Cod Fish and Chips, which is a distinct improvement.

The cod served here comes as a mini or medium. The shop also serves cod bites, calamari and scampi. Then there are sausages, pies and burgers too... The extensive menu is set out as a series of 'meal deals'. One of the Chip Fiends went for the small fish and chips with curry sauce at £2.99; whilst another Fiend had medium fish, chips and mushy peas for £4.99.

The portions were generous. The £2.99 meal was a good size for a lunchtime snack, and certainly enough food for such a bargain price.

The fish was good, but the batter was variable. Crisp in some places, but a bit soggy in others. The chips were rather nice. Cut quite chunky. The mushy peas had that tendency to weld the chips together though, as they started to dry. The £4.99 meal was a bit stodgy, so not all of it was eaten.

Cod Fish and Chips have some tables at the front of the shop, and the Old Market Square is only a few yards away if you fancy sitting out in the open.
