Wirksworth Fish Bar, Derbyshire

As this Chip Fiend stepped towards Wirksworth Fish Bar I realised that it was yet another member of a family of chip shops with branches in Chesterfield Market Place and Matlock. The distinctive red fish logo was emblazoned on the window.

Like the other branches this chippy has tables for customers to sit inside, but seems a quieter enterprise compared to those that are in bigger and busier locations.

I ordered haddock, chips and curry sauce at £7.40. It was plated and I was invited to take some cutlery from the end of the counter.

As I sat, a steady stream of locals came in ordering fishcakes, battered sausages, fish and chips, to take home.

My meal was pleasant but not amazing. The fish had been standing a while so had gone a bit crumbly.

The chips were nicely medium-chunky, with a firm but fluffy texture when bitten into.

The curry sauce was thick and had a good kick.
