The Big Fish, Beeston (Revisited)

The Chip Fiends visited Big Fish at Beeston, Nottingham in May 2017. We recently heard it was under new management, and as we happened to be in Beeston one Saturday lunchtime we decided to pop in to see what it was like. In appearance nothing much had changed. Staff were wearing 'Big Fish' branded uniforms, but we couldn't remember if this was the case on our previous visit.

Between us we ordered mini fish and chips twice, one with mushy peas, the other with curry sauce. The fish was fried to order and as there were a couple of tables with seats inside the shop we were able to rest while we waited the few minutes for the food to cook. We were asked by the young chap behind the counter if we wanted salt and vinegar on the chips before the fish was placed on top. Nice touch.

Once it was ready we stayed inside to eat.

The fish was delicious. The mini fillet was a generous size. The batter was amazing. Very crisp and in jagged peaks - the type we often describe as looking as though it has exploded when it hits the hot oil. This wasn't the type of batter to be peeled away and discarded. We wanted to eat every last scrap!

The chips were golden and cut quite long and chunky with a flattish shape.

The curry sauce was yellowish in colour. Thick and peppery, it made a nice dip for the chips. The peas were soft and creamy in texture and taste.

The small bin inside the shop was quite miniscule. One of the Fiends commented that this is because the shop do not expect customers to throw much away...
