Jason's, Rackheath, Norfolk

Jason's is a smart-looking chippy in Rackheath, a small village east of Norwich. It's style reminded the Chip Fiends a bit of the Peter's chip shops in the midlands. The staff at Jason's wear branded aprons and T shirts, the pickled egg jar has 'Jason's' on it and there is an impressive neon sign of the shop's logo on a wall inside the shop too. (Since we visited the shop has undergone further refurbishment and expanded in size).

On the Friday lunchtime that we visited there were several customers coming in and all the fish was cooked to order. There is cod, haddock, plaice, hake, rock, skate and sole on the menu. We ordered hake and chips with mushy peas.

There is tabasco, American spice and pepper, as well as salt and vinegar on the counter to add to your meal.

The chips were tasty. Soft and floppy rather than crisp. The fish's batter was rather soggy on the inside, so we peeled it away and avoided eating any of it. It didn't taste too good either. This was a pity because everything else pointed towards a delightful experience. Let's hope they were just having an off day.
