Angie’s Fish Bar, Loughborough

Don’t be mistaken by the look of this shop. At a glance it may look more like a kebab or fried chicken takeaway. Sure, they sell those items too but the fish and chips here are very decent.

They are also very good value for money. The fish this Chip Fiend had looked like a medium sized portion. The chips were scooped into a tray then the staff added salt and vinegar before mushy peas were ladled on top.

£4.50 was the price charged, after the fish was balanced on the feast of carbohydrates, thus proving this was their mini fish. Their menu says if you buy two of these meals it comes to £8.00.

I perched myself on one of the plastic seats inside.

The food was impressively piping hot,
something that seems missing from a lot of fish suppers nowadays. It brought back memories of burning one’s mouth on the first chip hurriedly stuffed inside.

The chips were very good indeed, medium cut and fresh tasting. The tasty peas were pleasantly pale and natural looking. The batter was thin but slightly soggy in parts but the fish inside was white and flaky.
