Kostas Fish and Chips, Matlock, Derbyshire

Another day in Matlock Bath… another chip shop!

On this visit the Chip Fiends thought they would continue with the mini fish specials that every chip shop along the main drag appear to offer. The special at Kostas costs 50 pence less than across the road – possibly because there is no river view! However, the food is surprisingly similar in quality and portion size.

spot the chip!

We arrived at the perfect moment in time. The fish was being fried so there would be a short wait. We paid and were asked to take a seat. (There is no extra charge for eating in the café).

We noticed the motorbike photos on the wall. Matlock is a popular destination for bikers and they usually park outside Kostas and the nearby Fishpond public house.

The fish and chips soon arrived on an oval plate, along with a ramekin of mushy peas. The peas were deliciously creamy in taste and texture. The chips were cut slightly flat (just like the ones at Riverside). The fish was fresh with a lovely thin and crisp batter. The portion size was ideal and proved to be VFM at only £4!!

Now, to try the rest of the street….
