Mrs Seas, Loscoe, Derbyshire

We have been wanting to visit Mrs Seas at Loscoe for quite a while. The photos of their fish and chips on social media look mouth watering and we were aching to see if the food was as good to eat as it appears in photographs.

When the Chip Fiends arrived one afternoon Mrs Seas hadn't opened yet but luckily there was a micropub across the road called the Tip Inn for us to take refreshments before the chippy opened.

Imagine our delight when we spied the 'Thursday nights chippy night' poster on the wall inside the pub. Yes, customers at the Tip Inn can purchase their chippy tea at Mrs Seas and bring it into the pub to eat with their beer, wine or whatever else takes their fancy.

At the chip shop we went for the cod slice special: a small(ish) portion of cod with chips and sauce of choice. We chose peas. The fish was fried to order and we were asked if we wanted the peas on the chips or in a carton. This type of customer service always delights us.

We carried our food back to the Tip Inn and ate in the back yard. The cod was perfect. Fresh tasting and succulent, it was held together in a very delicate crisp batter. The chips were pale and chunky. The chips were in irregular shapes which gave them a nice homemade quality.

The mushy peas were excellent. Earthy and undyed. They too were the type of homemade mushies we always like.

The meal was washed down with a clean hoppy beer. At £4.50 for the Mrs Seas special and £1.50 for the half pint it came to a very good VFM chippy night out. We had a couple more beers afterwards too...

The Tip Inn is open at 4pm - 10pm weekdays, and noon - 10pm weekends.

Mrs Seas is open for lunch 11.30am - 2pm and in the evenings between 4.30pm - 8.30pm Thursday to Saturday.

The shop is closed Mondays, and only open in the evenings on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

You best check about Sundays because Sunday opening seems to be seasonal here.
