Entwhistles opened at 5pm and by 5.05pm the place was heaving with customers - mostly coming to get their fish and chips wrapped to take home.
This chippy sells cod, haddock and
skate. The specials board had battered black pudding on it too. We also noticed
homemade coleslaw and homemade garlic mayonnaise on the menu.
The Chip Fiends ordered haddock, chips and mushy peas open for £8. It didn't take long for our fish to be fried to order. We were invited to put our own salt and vinegar on and when we lifted the fish we noted how hot the fish was. A good sign.
We made a short walk to the green where we found a bench to sit and eat. Unfortunately a couple of hungry seagulls also found their way there too.
The best thing in the tray of food
was the two ladles of mushy peas to one end of it. The peas were like pearls
from Jersey oysters sitting in a thick sauce.
The chips were golden and crispy.
We've had better fish. It was firm and flaky but had a fishy taste. We know
this sounds daft, but fresh fish shouldn't taste fishy. Ideally it should taste
creamy with a hint of fresh sea air.
The seagulls didn't get any.
