Wyggeston Street Fish Bar, Burton-on-Trent

This chippy is on the edge of the Trent and Mersey canal. Handy if you moor your boat under Horninglow Bridge.

This Chip Fiend arrived one lunchtime to a heated display already containing haddock. Cod was required today, so a few minutes wait whilst it was cooked to order. It was a very nice traditional looking shop. Spacious, with a couple of small tables for eating in.

Samosas, big battered burgers and curry patties were items of interest on the menu.

The nosh was served in a lidded tray and I added salt and vinegar. There was also a bottle of Piri Piri seasoning like the one we saw at a chippy in Kettering once, so this was sprinkled on some of the chips. I strolled to a bench next to the canal.

The fish came in a very thick batter, the shape somewhat resembled a moccasin. It was crisp on the outside but coated with a soggy sponge on the inside. This was discarded, as if it were eaten it would probably lie heavy on the stomach.

The delicious cod fillet was very nice and flaky.

These chips were cut medium thin, similar to the ones we often find in Sheffield. A beautiful golden yellow colour, they tasted very fresh and delicious. The Piri Piri seasoning, gave them a kick. We'd like to see this spice in more chippies.
