Mr Chips, Old Sawley

Some very good chippies are hidden away in housing estates. The locals may be very familiar with them as a best kept secret. Such a chip shop is Mr Chips in Old Sawley. We found it tucked away on a low lit residential street one Friday evening.

We made an easy decision to try the specials. One Chip Fiend chose mini fish and chips at £3.20 and the other the same with mushy peas at £3.50.

The service was spot on; friendly and efficient. We were asked if we wanted salt and vinegar added before the fish and mushy peas were put on top of the chips.

These mushy peas were the best we'd tasted so far this year and made an excellent mix with the medium cut chips.

The portion of fish was very fresh and cut into a triangle and coated in crunchy batter. The batter had a nice flavour to it.

Excellent value for money and the whole lot was devoured before we found a local pub to retire to.
