Granby Fisheries, Leicester

If you visit Leicester by train, cross Charles Street and head towards the city centre via Granby Street you will see this chippy on your right.

We popped in one Saturday lunchtime.
There is enough room for a few tables so we decided to eat in. We ordered fish, chips and mushy peas. The menu doesn't specify what fish they serve here, so we decided to accept the mystery. The tables were soon occupied by diners eating chip butties and fish and chips.

Our fish was cooked to order and full plates were brought to the counter. The portion certainly was generous, with the mushy peas almost slopping off the edge.

The chips were medium thick and very good. The (skinless) fish decent, with a crisp and light batter. The peas were a great consistency and un-dyed. We agreed these peas would be great with a dollop of mint sauce in them.

It was the kind of meal where you want to scoff the lot. We were defeated before we could eat about the four or five remaining chips on our plates. We had no more room in our stuffed bellies.
