Fish Delight, Leicester

This shop is a delight. It was C. Zarcone for many years; a shop with an excellent reputation. The Chip Fiends had been when it was C. Zarcone and can confirm the food there was excellent. Salvatore Zarcone worked in the shop for over forty years and recently retired so now the shop has had a bit over a make-over and a new branding.

The Chip Fiends visited one Saturday afternoon. The shop certainly looks very different to how it looked before with a brand new fryer and signage. It looks impressive. It's a small shop and there isn't much space for customers, so they've added a rail for queuing.

The shop only had sausages and Pukka Pies on display so we knew our food would be cooked to order. Super.

One of us fancied haddock and it comes in three sizes here; small, medium and large. Medium today.

The chips here are cut thin. Quite similar to another chippy just up the road and unusual for Leicester. They were utterly delicious. So fresh and solid. Very crisp on the outside and tasty.

The fish was cooked to perfection. The batter was some of the thinnest and crispest we've ever had. How they manage this is anyone's guess. It was a golden orange colour and, did we say how crisp it was?!

The other Chip Fiend had chips and mushy peas. The peas were thick but were a bit tepid.
