Queens Fish and Chips, Lichfield

This chippy is just outside of the centre of Lichfield in a residential area. You'll find it on Wheel Lane.

We visited early one Saturday lunchtime. Maybe a little too early. You'll see why later.

It's a modern looking shop. Quite spacious but with only one table for eating in on this visit.

There were a few fish already cooked on display when we arrived. A little disappointing as we like cooked to order but as the shop had only been open around forty five minutes we thought we'd be OK.

We ordered cod and chips, open. The food was scooped into a box and was about to be wrapped but we reminded the staff we didn't want it wrapped.

We found a spot nearby to nosh.
The fish was good, despite it not cooked to order. The cod fillet was excellent; thick chunky flakes that tasted very fresh. The batter was light and crisp. It was delicious.

The chips appeared to be the previous night's reheated. They were translucent and greasy. They tasted of grease and cardboard. They were a disgrace and were binned. If the chips were fresh they would have been great. They were cut thick and long. No amount of vinegar and salt could have masked the flavour of grease.
