Tony's Chippy, Skegness

Elvis is Dead. A newspaper headline from 39 years ago, printed on a sheet of paper the tray of chips is served on. In August 1977 one of the Chip Fiends could well have been on holiday in Skegness enjoying fish and chips.

Tony's Chippy is across the road from Skeggy's clock tower; a very popular restaurant with ample picnic table seating outside. It was very busy on our visit but with several counters and lots of staff, service was prompt and efficient.

We ordered the special of haddock, chips and peas and found a spot to eat.

The chips were cut to the thickness of one's pinky and fried to a pale golden, as was the thin crispy batter on the fish.

The haddock was excellent; so fresh and flaky. Utterly delicious.

The mushy peas were great also. A nice dollop on top of the chips making an excellent mix. The peas had some bite to them and lots of flavour.

We ate the lot. Nothing was left on the tray.
