Devonshire Chippy, Sheffield

This chippy stands on a corner spot on Division Street. It's near to the Frog and Parrot so probably caters well for night time pub leavers. However, the Chip Fiends visited on a warm early evening and the chippy was doing a good and steady trade.

We went for fish and chips open at £5.20. Our fish was a 'large' size.

We had to wait for some fresh chips to fry, but didn't mind of course.

Service was brisk and friendly. Salt and vinegar was put on for the customer, but the condiments are on the counter so you can help yourself too. We saw another customer ask for mayo on her chips. The shopkeeper produced a bottle from under the counter and squirted a generous amount of sauce on the chips at no extra charge!

After finding a bench nearby we enjoyed our meal. The chips were very good: crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside.

The fish was unmistakably haddock although simply listed as 'fish' on the menu. Pure white and firm, with very crispy batter.

An enjoyable treat as the afternoon heat subsided into an early evening balm.
