Station Fish Bar, Derby

This chippy has been closed for a couple of years and recently reopened.
We have such fond memories of the shop as it used to be; a traditional takeaway that was very popular with commuters, customers of the nearby pubs, and bands playing gigs at the Victoria a couple of doors away.

The shop now has been modernised and the layout is different. It's not got the same old fashioned look. Something didn't feel quite right on this visit. The shop had been open less than one hour but the counter and the floor looked distinctly grubby, as though it hadn't been cleaned from the previous day.

The fish was cooked to order and placed in a box with a generous scoop of chips.

The fish was excellent. A thin and crispy batter surrounded a fresh and flaky skinless portion.
The chips were cut way too thin. The thinnest chip shop chips we've ever seen. They had very little flavour and were dry. Most of them were dumped in the nearest bin.

We remember this place as it once was; a chap taking the portioned fish from a fridge in the back room, battering and frying. Young girls serving the food and the Sooty charity box on the counter.

Thanks for the memories.
