Return to The Fish House, Ely

A really good chippy deserves at least a second visit. And therefore the Chip Fiends found themselves at The Fish House in Ely again, where we had so loved their haddock. In 2015 we thought this was the best fish we had eaten all year.

On this occasion we arrived early enough to find a spare table in the cafe area, so sat indoors.

The Fish House has a fuss-free system. Order your cafe food at one end of the takeaway counter, pay for it, then step through the door to the right of the shop and take a seat. The piping hot, freshly fried food is soon brought to your table.

The Fiends went for haddock and chips, mushy peas, and a gherkin.

We were pleased that the quality of the food was still top notch. The fish was amazing, with perfect batter: so light and crispy!
The chips, golden and delicious. We didn't have peas the last time we visited so we are pleased to report this time that they were creamy tasting and thankfully undyed.

Service at The Fish House is swift, friendly and unpretentious. There are also tables outside that overlook the busy weekend market. We are not particular about where you choose to eat your Fish House grub - cafe, outside table or not - just make sure you try this chippy!
