Seafare, Sheringham

Sheringham is a small seaside town with numerous chippies within a small radius. Most of the chip shops here are situated on the main street that leads to the sea front.

To find Seafare you will need to turn off onto Church Street as we did on our visit when we were looking for an evening meal.

Seafare is a traditional chippy that we imagine is popular with both locals and holidaymakers.

There was no haddock on the menu board - just cod and plaice. We therefore plumped for a small cod portion each (it comes in three sizes) along with chips (which were new potatoes), mushy peas and curry sauce.

The sauces were already potted in stacks and then reheated in a microwave. We've never seen them served like this before. The fish and chips were wrapped expertly in paper (no need for trays here!) in a sort of flat-bottomed cone shape.

The fish was good. Firm and pure white, and in a dark batter. The chips had that unique taste that new potatoes give. The peas were excellent. Quite clearly soaked and cooked on the premises, with some nice fat peas in the sauce. The curry however was a bit watery and insipid.

There are plenty of handy benches immediately outside the shop which we and the other customers made good use of.
