Wetmore Road Fish Bar, Burton on Trent

Wetmore Road Fish Bar recently won an award for Best Chippy in Burton on Trent and it's easy to see why. The Chip Fiends have been here a couple of times before and always been delighted with the quality of the fish and chips. There's a nice cartoon fish on the sign outside, but he was covered by a banner proclaiming the recent contest win.

On our latest visit we asked for 1 small fish meal (haddock, chips and peas) and regular fish and chips with a pot of curry sauce. The whole order came to £10.

The small fish meal was probably what other chippies would sell as a regular.

The regular portion on the other hand would have fed the 5,000...
I asked for the chips wrapped as it was raining and this was going to be a car picnic. When the shop assistant started shovelling the chips I thought there had been some mistake but she reassured me this was a regular portion 'but enough for two'. It looked more like enough for four, so there were plenty leftover to freeze at home.

That's the quantity, now for the quality. Wetmore chips are the perfect chip. Tasty 'cloud chips' - light and fluffy and in no way stodgy. Delicious.

The fish is always good at Wetmore too. Tasting as fresh as if it had just been landed. The batter is good and crisp too. The mushy peas were delicious and a very good consistency, with some nice firm peas.

We will definitely pop by again but need to check out Angelo's who came second in the Burton chippy awards.
