Ron's Fish and Chips, Norwich

Norwich Market is excellent for hot food stalls and this includes a couple of chippies as well as the mushy pea stall that we reviewed previously. Lucy's does very nice chips with a variety of toppings: cheese, curry sauce or gravy, but if you want fish with your meal then you should make your way to Ron's.

This Chip Fiend opted for fish and chips open at the bargain price of £3.20 and was reminded of Rask's stall at Derby market - a similarly good value takeaway.

Ron's delicious chips were cut thin and had something of the flavour of new potato chips, although it was too early in the season for them to be this variety of spud.

The service was swift and courteous, and the stall was doing a roaring trade, as no doubt it has been since 1953 when it was established. This makes Ron's reign at Norwich Market as lengthy as that of Queen Elizabeth II! Rather befittingly, Ron's sign features a suitably patriotic Union Jack.
