Hillmorton Fish Saloon, Rugby

This chippy stands in a small row of shops on Featherbed Lane in a housing estate on the outskirts of Rugby.

A spacious premises with plenty of room for queuing, one can only imagine how busy this place gets on a Friday evening.

We visited one lunchtime where there were a steady stream of customers.
There were fish already cooked, standing in the heated display. This Chip Fiend rather hoped that the fish requested might be cooked to order. Alas it was not.

The haddock and chips was skilfully served in a large cone of paper. The staff, wearing an impressive uniform of striped apron with the embroidered shop logo, splashed the vinegar and sprinkled the salt.

The batter was quite thick, parts of it were soggy due to this and the fish cooked with skin on.
The haddock seemed a little waxy in texture due to it standing a while.

The chips were thick and short. Fat chips. Tasty but quite greasy. The portion was generous, you could feed two people quite happily.
