Best of British premier fish and chips does not hide it's light under a bushel.
We visited this shop expecting to find 'Morgan's Plaice' only to find the chippy had changed its name to the present moniker.
Best of British sits down a narrow side street in Long Eaton, Derbyshire, but is signposted with A-boards and huge letters proclaiming 'Fish and Chips' painted onto the building that can be seen from streets away.

When the shop was called Morgan's it had an item on the menu called a 'Fish Scone' that we were hoping to try, but alas this was no longer available.
Instead, one of the fiends had Yorkshire fish cake, chips and peas (£3.30) and another fiend had haddock and chips (£5.50). The chips were pleasant: crispy and flavoursome; the Yorkshire fishcake was tasty, the peas very nice quality and came in a very very generous dollop!

The skinless haddock was fried to order - always a good sign - and revealed itself in lovely big flakes when the batter was peeled away.

Best of British has friendly service, and a charmingly diverse menu for a local chippy tucked down a side street, which probably explains why they were doing a roaring trade when we visited. A nice touch is the sauce counter. Customers can help themselves to plastic or wooden forks, napkins, and a selection of sauces that are included in the price of the food.
The shop also serves deals such as: Fish, chips and a side (peas, beans and so on ) for £3.50,
Haddock: large £4.50 or Mega £8. (One can only wonder at the size this might be...)
Stuffing cake (whatever that is!)
and deep fried Mars Bars with cream and marshmallows £2.
