Wellies is located in a residential area of Grantham, a short walk from the railway station.
This Chip Fiend visited on a Saturday to find it busy with customers buying their lunch. The fish was being cooked to order which we are always impressed by.
The shop is pristine with tiles and gleaming stainless steel, the staff are uniformed in Wellies polo shirts.
Chip Fiend found the chalk hand-written menu quite cumbersome and difficult to read but a sign reading Saturday Special caught the eye. £4.25 for a mini fish (haddock or cod), chips and a side is a bargain.
The haddock was skinless and cooked in a very light crispy batter.
Flaky, succulent, sweet and delicious. The chips were cut quite thin and were fluffy on the inside.
Mushy peas were the perfect combination of mush and bite.
It's worth noting that Wellies has gluten free days on the first Monday of every month and every third Saturday. They also do deliveries and you can order online from their website.
