No.1, Cromer

Cromer is a seaside resort with plenty of places to find fish and chips as well as the famous crabs. The No.1 opened in 2013 on the previous site of the Regency which was probably the town's poorest quality chippy, but in a prime spot overlooking the sea and amusements north of the pier.

The venue was bought by Galton Blackiston (of Morston Hall) and transformed into an affordable fish and chip restaurant, take away and ice cream shop. With its simple but stylish logo it's easy to spot.

No.1 serve cod, haddock or plaice at £4.50 each, and there is also scampi and fishcakes on the menu. Chips are £1.50 a portion, or you can buy a cone for £1.

For today's dining experience, one of the Chip Fiends ate haddock and chips overlooking the North Sea (surely the best location for such a meal).

The portion was generous and the food was good. The chips were golden and marbled with a light brown. The fish was good but the batter was half crispy, half slightly soggy.

The shop is popular and there is often a long queue outside the door - just like Cromer's other town centre chippy, Mary Jane's.

No.1 fish and chips come in a corporate box with a reminder on the side to 'keep Cromer tidy' - so please bin the box after eating!
