Coalville Fish Bar

Visited December 2013.

There has been a chippy on this site for many years. Originally a one-storey shack on a T-junction this establishment metamorphosis end into a bigger shop on a mini roundabout. The then-owners sarcastically renamed it the 'Desert Island Fish Shop' fearing that the roundabout would prevent customers from parking outside and therefore discourage them from visiting.

Several owners later the Coalville Fish Bar has a large menu that includes items such as cod roe and battered mushrooms. The fish (cod or haddock) is cooked to order and therefore comes fresh, in crisp, golden batter. The staff wear 'Coalville Fish Bar' T-shirts and caps and on our visit there was a disco light flashing in one corner of the shop.

On this occasion we took the chips away to eat indoors. A generous portion of chunky chips - enough left over to freeze for another meal for one person. Oh yes! If you haven't tried re-using leftover chips as oven chips then we recommend that you do.
