The Cosy Cod, Stockport, Greater Manchester

This could quite possibly be the most popular chippy in Stockport. The Cosy Cod isn’t usually open at weekends, although the shop were having extra openings on Saturdays when one of the Chip Fiends visited in December 2024.

The place was very busy with a queue of people popping in for takeaways and deliveries. There are a few cafe tables at the front of the shop so I ate in. This meant that my meal was served on a plate and metal cutlery and condiments were provided.

The meal was freshly cooked and piping hot. I had a large cod, small chips and the Cosy Cod Curry Sauce. This turned out to be lovely spicy Irish curry sauce. Delicious.

The chips were firm and with a nice fluff on the inside. The small portion was just the right amount to have if you don’t want to get over-full.

The cod was pure white and fresh, with good flaking. The light batter was almost like a tempura style. It came away from the fish with ease. I did notice some parts were a bit sticky on the inside, but this did not spoil the meal. I just left those bits.

The curry was sensational.

Service was efficient and friendly and the staff were chatting with regulars which proved how popular this place is with locals. Highly recommended.
