One of the Chip Fiends was in Altrincham on a dark, Friday evening. The area around the market seemed very vibrant with its restaurants and bars and the attractive street lighting. It is in this district on Greenwood Street where Altrincham Fish Bar stands.
The chippy tea placed in front of me was a pretty picture and every bit as good as it looked.
The haddock was fresh and delicate with pure white flesh and no skin. The batter was very thin and crisp.
The chips were on the dainty side and similar to the fish, were light and delicate but perfectly tasty.
I really enjoyed the home-soaked, pale and creamy peas. Just how I like them.
The meal made for a wholesome Friday evening treat. Satisfyingly filling without being stodgy. Although the cafe was quiet during my visit, the takeaway was very busy. A constant stream of customers were coming in to order and the Deliveroo notifications were signalling thick and fast!
As I left the shop I looked at the frying range and noticed a big heap of batter scraps. I almost did a U-turn to order a plate of those and have another meal!
