Bradwell Fish and Chips, Bradwell, Derbyshire

Another chippy ticked off on our Peak District list. Bradwell Fish and Chips is open all day from noon through to 8pm at weekends and noon till 7pm Tuesday to Thursday. Bradwell village isn’t one of the major attractions of the Peaks but is pretty and buses pass through here several times a day en route to Castleton. It is also on a road between Hope and Tideswell should you be motoring or cycling that way.

I called in one Saturday lunchtime and paid £6 for small fish, chips and curry. The food was prepared to order and I was soon sitting on a bench in the Beggar’s Plot Playing Field tucking in.

The chips were fresh tasting and chunky. The peppery curry sauce clung nicely to the chips and spiced them up nicely.

The cod was fresh and flakey. The small size was a reasonable portion for lunch. The curry sauce had been ladled over the top of the fish which made the batter rather soggy and gave the meal an unattractive appearance. Much better to pour over the chips before placing the fish on top.
