This was one of those epic journeys on three buses, taking advantage of the £2.00 bus fare price cap. I arrived not long after the doors had opened on a Thursday lunchtime, after waking at what seemed like the middle of the night and a four hour trip.
Directly opposite the entrance is a touch screen where you can order your food. Do I use it or just walk to the counter? I suppose it’s more for using when the shop is busy and has a queue. I ordered a lunchtime special with curry sauce and waited as it was cooked to order, admiring the spotlessly clean surroundings and the long row of sauces for customers to help themselves to.
The shop was fairly busy with folk popping in buying a variety of lunches. One chap came in and just bought a battered sausage.
The staff here seemed super relaxed and happy. It was a joy to be served here by folk that were clearly enjoying their work.
After a few minutes I was called over and invited to help myself to cutlery and a napkin as my boxed food was handed over. I sat at one of the tables inside, facing the window, watching the Starship delivery robots whizzing past.
Just one look at the meal and I knew it was going to be great. It all looked so fresh. I shoved a couple of chips in my mouth to confirm this.
The batter was very light and crisp, covering a delicious succulent fillet of haddock. The chips were cut medium thick and had a delicate crisp outer and fluffy inner. In short, everything was perfect.
Afterwards when I was taking photos of the outside the shop, one of the staff came out and offered to pose for a photo. I was chuckling away to myself as I strolled to the bus stop.
