Battered Mince Pies at Sea Fish, Ripley

After a few years of Christmas novelties such as pigs in blankets and battered sprouts a few chip shops are offering deep fried mince pies this year.

This is something the Chip Diaries have been hoping to sample for many many years.

Way back in the 1990s - and long before we started the diaries - we went on a mission to Peterborough to find a shop that we heard had sold them. Unfortunately we couldn’t locate it.

A few decades later we finally reached the pot of gold in Ripley, Derbyshire at the luxurious Sea Fish restaurant which was looking very festive on our visit.

The battered mince pies were exquisite. We can’t recommend them highly enough. The crispy batter coating lightens the pie crust and the mincemeat is very palatable for receiving the warmth of the deep fat fryer.

At a bargain £2 you get two pies and can have them served with cream or ice cream.

Go on treat yourself!
