The Frying Pan, Hertford, Hertfordshire

First impressions of this place weren’t good. It looked very scruffy indeed; a table inside with magazines and leaflets strewn across it and a counter with so much clutter on it, it seemed like the staff were attempting to build a barrier between them and the customers.

Thankfully the food was very good.

They were cooking to order. The person in front of us had put in a HUMONGOUS request. When it was finally ready it seem to take ages to put into a bag. The order came to over £60.

Soon ours was ready. We were sharing today as we had a bus to catch and had to eat this rather quickly. We sat at the handy table (this one free of clutter) outside.

Each Chip Fiend took it in turns to stab at the best looking chip and lump of fish they spotted. It was like we had become seagulls. Or gannets. We commented on how good the curry sauce was. A lovely Chinese style with bags of flavour. Just the kind of curry sauce we love. Just give me a tub and a spoon next time. Forget the fish and chips!

There was an abundance of chips that were nice and fresh. There were so many it was a good job we were sharing.

The batter on the fish was light and crisp and there was some very decent flaking. After we devoured our chippy tea we legged it.
