There are quite a few chippies in Caister-on-Sea. We saw three as we were traipsing around the resort but two were closed - one of them due to the extreme weather Britain was having in July.
I ordered a medium haddock with chips and curry sauce. Cod and haddock come in three sizes in this shop; skate and rock come in two sizes. My haddock was cooked to order.
A few minutes later - and a five minute walk - took me to the beach. The sea wall made a handy perch-cum-table.
The food was pleasant enough but didn’t have the 'wow' factor that seaside fish 'n' chips usually do. The batter was the best part of the meal: light, crisp and tasty. The fish inside it was quite a flat filet rather than a thick, flaky haddock. It also was slightly overdone and wasn’t as juicy as I would have liked.
The chips had a nice homemade look about them - cut in irregular sizes - but again could’ve been fresher tasting.
The curry sauce was the standard sweet and peppery type but mixed thick and therefore made a good coating when dipping the chips.
