Leeds Fisheries, Scarborough, Yorkshire

We have visited this chippy many times over the years, but never got around to reviewing it until now. Leeds Fisheries is handily situated on Eastborough, the main walk up between the South Bay and town, and a good stopping off point for holidaymakers to have some freshly fried fish and chips. The shop has a cafe as well as a takeaway. Michael Caine and Brenda Blethyn once stood on the front steps here in a scene from Little Voice (1998). The shop is very photogenic.

One of the Chip Fiends had a lunchtime snack of haddock and chips, open. The fish was cooked to order and took a few short minutes to be ready.

The food was piping hot and delicious. The haddock was encased in a thin, crisp batter and had moist, delicate flakes.

The chips were lovely and fluffy. Fried from new potatoes, the shop had managed to make them crisp on the outside rather than soft.

Notably, although this was a fair portion size, the freshness of the food ensured that I didn't feel stodged after eating. Lovely.

If you visit, take care because there are a lot of seagulls in the vicinity of the shop!
