Are You Kidderminstering Me?!

After abandoning a trip to Catchems End in Bewdley (let’s go there another day) we decided that after waiting for a bus that never turned up we would admit defeat and head to two different chip shops in Kidderminster.

Rather alarmingly they turned out to be as bad as each other.

Graffiti covered subways under roads, and pavements alongside dual carriageways didn’t make for a pleasant stroll on the hunt to find some food.

One Fiend headed to Bewdley Road Fish Bar. Mini fish and chips. Sat in the hot box. The fish was like sludge, the chips greasy and tasting of cardboard, the batter like chamois leather.

Captain Cod’s opposite the station was even worse if we’re honest. There was barely any fish inside the sludgy batter. The chips were devoid of flavour. The Chip Fiend looked for the nearest bin.

On this visit it seemed the shops we went to had given up caring; dishing up crap that the customer is expected to make do with. Surely the people of Kidderminster deserve something better than this?

Undeterred we paid another visit to the town. Slightly more successful was the restaurant meal we had at Kidderminster Fish Bar. The staff here were very courteous and the restaurant area was clean.

However, the chips were a tad chewy, the cod was slightly overdone (probably due to having stood in the hot box) and the peas were tinned. A mug of tea was included. At £10.35 one would expect better.

With a dearth of good chip shops in this town you’d be best advised to go to Bewdley - walk if the bus doesn't turn up!

  1. As someone who lives just a few miles away from Kiddy, I tend to agree. Captain Cod's used to be quite nice but had gone crap now. Catchums End is ok. Lovely on a good day, overpriced stodge on a bad day. You should try Sids Plaice in Bridgnorth. best for miles around!
