Anker Fish Bar, Tamworth, Staffordshire

Justin Timberlake was blasting out over the speakers. I felt a right hope and Anker doing hand gestures to ask for the meal open and curry sauce on the side. Shouldn’t they be playing Julian Cope or Wolfsbane? Eventually my hand signs were understood. I’m glad they were.

A £4.80 bargain of mini fish, chips and a sauce was ordered. The fish would be fried to order. Looking at the batter on the items in the hot box it should be good.

And it was. A very light batter you could see the fish through. This is how it should be. The chips were top too. Pale with a light crispness, with that delicious flavour of new potatoes. There wasn’t a hint of grease. The curry sauce was the standard type but was mixed nice and thick.

It’s meals like this that remind you why fish and chips can be the best takeaway meal. I want to return.
